Seven Common Commercial Ice Maker Problems

Your commercial ice dispenser is a critical part of your business. Even when it’s cold outside, people still want ice in their drinks. As a provider of restaurant equipment repairs in Delaware, we know all too well how crucial the ice maker is to your bottom line. A problem with your ice will end up being a problem for your reputation. With an eye to avoiding expensive ice machine repairs in Delaware, we’ve put together the most common commercial ice maker problems and how to solve them.

Not dispensing ice or water

A common problem is that your ice maker stops dispensing ice or water. If you notice this happening, first make sure that there is sufficient flow of water into the ice maker. You may simply need to turn on the water. Ensure that the feeler of the ice maker is not blocked or has switched off the machine. The feeler is the arm that pushes the cubes to the outer tray. If too much ice piles up, this will make the feeler stay lifted, which prevents the dispensing of more ice.

Check the water pressure going into the ice maker. If the pressure is too low, the water will not flow into the ice maker to make the ice. Your ice machine repair team should be performing routine maintenance to keep your ice maker working at its optimal level.

Not making any ice

If you notice that your ice dispenser is not making any ice at all, first make sure that it is turned on. Then make sure that the thermometer is set to the right temperature. If you still have no ice after confirming that the machine is turned on and at the correct temperature, the culprit could be a frozen or clogged water line. Switch off the ice maker and defrost the machine. If you turn the ice maker back on and it is still not making ice, you should call for ice machine repairs in Delaware.

Not making enough ice

If your ice maker is not making the amount of ice that it used to, first check whether there is a frozen line anywhere. A defrost may be in order. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you will need to call the experts for ice machine repairs in Delaware.

Leaking

If you notice water on the floor near your ice machine, the ice maker could be leaking. Make sure that the ice maker is in a level position. Then check to make sure that there is no damage in the water pipes nearby. Check the filler cup in the ice maker to make sure that is well positioned. If you are finding no issues, but there still is a leak, reach out to the pros for help.

Frozen

If the water freezes before getting into the ice maker mold, your ice maker will freeze up. To correct this, you will need to set your thermostat to the recommended temperature. If the temperature seems fine, but the water is freezing before getting to the mold, the experts can help with restaurant equipment repairs in Delaware.

Dispensing smelly cubes

There is almost nothing worse for your clientele than smelly ice cubes. This is due to your filter not being changed. Change the filter in your ice maker at least once every six months to avoid the stinky smell.

Making strange noises

If you hear unexpected noises from your ice maker, this is a warning sign that should not go unheeded. Unexplained noises could be a problem in your temperature control unit or compressor, or water could be falling on the defroster heater.
