Five Signs Your Ice Machine Needs Repair

Throughout Delaware, every commercial kitchen relies on an ice maker to some extent. Why? Because customers love ice. It goes in the water and in cocktails. It’s used to chill seafood and other ingredients. There’s no such thing as a functional commercial kitchen with a non-functional ice machine.

If you’re concerned that your business may require ice machine repair in Delaware, here are some warning signs to look out for.

Leaks

One of the clearest indications that your ice machine is on the way out is leaks. When a leak forms on the exterior of your ice machine, puddles of water pool underneath the appliance. If left unaddressed, an exterior leak can cause damage to the floorboards or baseboards. An interior leak could show itself in the form of larger-than-average ice cubes. That may not seem like a big deal, but those larger cubes could cause rapid wear and tear on your ice maker.

Half-frozen ice cubes

Are you noticing that your ice cubes aren’t freezing completely? You could have an issue with your compressor, the part in your ice machine that is partially responsible for controlling the internal temperature. When the compressor is malfunctioning, the heat in your ice machine will rise uncontrollably, and you’ll end up with slush instead of ice cubes.

Diminished output

One of the most commonly overlooked indicators that you require ice machine repair in Delaware is a reduction in the number of ice cubes your ice machine makes. Are you noticing that you’re running out of ice more frequently? Are you having to reach lower and lower into the bin to fish out fresh ice? You could have a problem on your hands.

Bad taste

Because ice is used in so many recipes and drinks in a commercial kitchen, it’s critical that your ice machine produces clean ice. When your ice tastes bad or has an odor, it can ruin the entire effect. No cocktail or soda, no matter how delicious, can overpower the negative impact of foul-tasting ice.

Louder-than-average noises

You know the typical noises that your ice machine makes. There’s the sound that the water makes as it streams into the freezing chamber, and an authoritative click as the machine begins freezing, followed by the clacking noise of falling ice cubes once they’re finished freezing. If you notice that your ice machine is making more noise than usual, consider having a professional check it out before your appliance breaks entirely.
