How to Know When You Need Commercial Ice Machine Repairs in Delaware

The ice machine is likely one of many parts of your restaurant business that you tend to take for granted until it stops functioning properly. Anyone who has experienced any issues with their machine will tell you how quick customers are to head somewhere else for lunch once they realize there’s no ice. On top of that, items that need to be kept on ice, such as fruit for the bar or any seafood, will suffer as well.

A broken ice machine could cost your restaurant thousands of dollars in lost business and products. Ensuring that your machine gets the repairs it needs before it becomes a major problem is crucial to keeping your restaurant running smoothly. To help you know when it’s time to call for a professional repair specialist, here are some signs that it’s time for ice machine repairs in Delaware:

  • Leaks: Puddles around the ice machine can mean much more than a potential safety hazard for your staff. These large pools of water around the ice machine result in large chunks of ice that are unusable. Not only is this annoying, but it may also be an indicator that there’s a problem with the machine.
  • Warm water: Is your machine not producing the same amount of ice that it used to? Check to see if the water is cold enough. When the water is too warm, the ice machine takes longer to produce ice. Oftentimes, it may not be able to produce any ice at all if it’s unable to get to the necessary freezing temperatures. The presence of warm water can actually be an indicator of a long list of potential problems with the unit.
  • No power: This is one of the most obvious signs that something is amiss. It can be caused by everything from frayed wires inside of the machine due to age, or even something as simple as accidentally unplugging the power cord from the wall. Unfortunately, a lack of power may mean that there’s a major problem with your electrical system. Call a professional for service if the power isn’t restored after you check the circuit breaker to ensure it hasn’t been tripped.
  • Restricted airflow: Your ice machine relies on regular airflow in order to produce high quality ice for your customers and patrons. Over time, grime and dust can build up in the exhaust passages, which makes it much more difficult for the air to move through. Any items stacked next to the ice machine could accidentally restrict the airflow into the unit. The exhaust needs to vent out of the system, or else it could cause it to overload and even shut down, leaving you with a non-functioning unit.
