The Importance of Spring Cleaning Your Restaurant Kitchen

Now that winter is over, it’s time for some heavy-duty cleaning. Spring cleaning your restaurant kitchen in Delaware is a great opportunity to deep clean the dust, dirt and grime from your professional surroundings. While you probably clean thoroughly on a daily basis, there’s always plenty more that can be done. For example, did you know that customers believe that if a restaurant bathroom is dirty, the kitchen is probably in the same state? That’s not good for your bottom line or reputation.

Here are some tips to make your kitchen sparkle:

  • Revisit your cleaning list: You probably have an opening and closing cleaning task list for your employees to perform each day. If you’ve added new equipment, however, that task list might not be up to date. Take a minute to revisit your cleaning list and make sure it’s accurate for your current state of affairs.
  • Consider hiring a pest control company: With the warmer weather comes ants and other insects. Working with a pest control company is a good way to seal up any places that might allow pests to get in, and get rid of any that have already invaded.
  • Pay attention to your floors: Even if you mop your floors regularly, hard-to-clean dirt and road salt can still get tracked in over the winter. Take the opportunity to do a thorough deep-clean so your floors are clean enough to eat off of (figuratively speaking, of course).
  • Deep clean the bathroom: To make a great impression on your Delaware customers, make sure to deep clean your bathrooms as part of kitchen spring cleaning, too. Do they need a fresh coat of paint or new fixtures? Fix your bathroom up as much as possible, before the spring and summer weather bring more people to your restaurant.
  • Wash your windows: Kitchen windows can get grimy fast—smoke, oil, grease and more can stick to the windows and make them unpleasant to look at and be around. Make sure you take the time to clean your windows every few weeks.
  • Clean and tune up your HVAC system: Your HVAC system needs some TLC, too. Have a contractor come out for an HVAC tune-up, including a ductwork inspection and cleaning. This will get rid of excess dust and ensure that your air conditioner is working before the heat sets in.
  • Scour your ice maker: You should be cleaning your ice machine regularly—and spring cleaning is no exception. Follow the manufacturers’ recommendations, or have a service and cleaning company do it for you.
  • Don’t forget your kitchen hoods: Finally, make sure you deep clean your kitchen hoods and verify they’re working properly. Grease and oil collect on the bottom of the hoods and can drip into your food while you’re cooking—ew!
